BAPTISM
For Catholics, the Sacrament of Baptism is the first step in a lifelong journey of commitment and discipleship. Whether we are baptized as infants or adults, Baptism is the Church's way of celebrating and enacting the embrace of God. Parents wishing their child baptized at OLSS must be registered and contributing Parish or another Catholic parish for at least six months before applying. In addition, parents and Godparents are required to attend a Baptismal Prep Class.
Call the Parish Office for more information. Email: [email protected] .
If your child is seven or older, contact Danielle Bennette-Dukes ([email protected]) regarding the Rite of Christian Initiation for Children (RCIC).
RECONCILIATION
The Catholic Sacrament of Reconciliation (Penance, Confession, and Reconciliation) has three elements: conversion, confession, and celebration. In it, we find God's unconditional forgiveness and better understand our call to forgive others. OLSS offers Confession on Saturdays from 3:15 – 3:45 pm before Saturday Vigil Mass in the church or by appointment. Please call the Parish Office or email ([email protected] ) to schedule.
HOLY EUCHARIST
The Eucharist is the most important of the seven sacraments. In this and no other sacrament, we receive the body and blood of our Lord, Jesus Christ. Catholics believe the Eucharist, or Communion, is both a sacrifice and a meal. We believe in the real presence of Jesus, who died for our sins. As we receive Christ's Body and Blood, we also are nourished spiritually and brought closer to God. First Communion is available to students in the second grade that have been baptized and are eligible to receive the Sacrament after completing a one-year preparation process. The Sacrament is open to registered and contributing Parish members for at least six months. Preparation classes are held as a component of the Parish School Program.

CONFIRMATION
Confirmation is the third sacrament of initiation. Confirmation serves to "confirm" a baptized person in their faith. It is a Catholic Sacrament of mature Christian commitment and a deepening of baptismal gifts. It is one of the three Sacraments of Initiation for Catholics. It is most often associated with the gifts of the Holy Spirit OLSS offers the rite of Confirmation to High School students in the eleventh grade after they complete the two-year preparation process. The Sacrament is open to registered and contributing Parish members for at least six months.

HOLY MATRIMONY
For Catholics, the Sacrament of Marriage, or Holy Matrimony, is a public sign that one gives oneself totally to this other person. It is also a public statement about God: the loving union of husband and wife speaks of family and God's values. The rules of the Diocese require a minimum of six months of marriage preparation before a wedding. Contact the Parish office for complete instructions and additional information before making arrangements.
ANOINTING OF THE SICK/SICK VISITS
The Catholic Sacrament of Anointing of the Sick, formerly Last Rites or Extreme Unction, is a healing ritual appropriate for physical, mental, and spiritual sickness. Contact the Parish Office if you or one of our parishioners is hospitalized or homebound and wishes to receive the sacrament of Anointing of the Sick.
